I am usually on the fence when it comes to modern mortar and pestle sets preferring, instead, the ones typically used to make table-side guacamole in Mexican restaurants (called a molcajete).  

This cast iron version with a wooden base from German flatware company Mono is really beautiful, however, and seems much more functional for a busy kitchen.
